galaxia, why are you posting about hoodies in the middle of summer??? well, i’m currently sitting in an office that is approximately 18ºC or approximately 64ºF — or, put simply, freezing! the café i spend most of my non-work hours is so frigid that my fingers feel numb within half an hour. yes, it’s a silly problem to have: being too cold during the blistering summer. but in these conditions, it’s absolutely vital to keep a hoodie on your desk or in your bag if you want to survive.
unfortunately, finding the perfect hoodie is no small task. there are so many things you have to get right: material, fit, quality, colour, crop, zip, hood size, etc. there are literally hundreds of options! and so, i’ve decided to sit down and collect some of the best hoodies i’ve ever owned (or begged friends to let me borrow) to hopefully narrow your search a bit. this list is subjective and definitely not absolute or exhaustive — just a sampling of my favourite finds at the current moment.
♡ fashion-forward
everything from entire studios is undeniably cooler than cool — minimal and easy to wear, while still making a statement. i have no doubt their cropped hoodie is the best cropped option on the market, and their full-length version is also great. thick and super cozy with a perfect fit.
♡ something a little funky!
i’m a big fan of Acne Studios, and i’m always impressed by their pieces. beyond the beautiful dusty blush tone — it comes in other fun colours as well! — this hoodie is incredibly cozy and well constructed. the fit is casual and understated, but effortlessly stylish; the right people will notice how perfect it is.
♡ can’t go wrong
who doesn’t love Carhartt? Carhartt Work In Progress is their hip indie-rock little sibling, and i’m personally very here for it! the Nelson sweatshirt is chill and casual with little design details that add the perfect amount of visual interest. it comes in a number of colours and fits, all of them good choices.
♡ popular for a reason
everyone and their mother (and their aunt, and their baby, etc.) has been wearing Fear of God Essentials. i’m usually pretty anti-trend (more on this in another newsletter, maybe), but my personal experience with them has been pretty good. i think they definitely set the standard for designer basics, and strongly endorse grabbing one of their hoodies — on sale, if you can! they’re cozy, fit well, and are a great basic to have in your closet or at your desk. note: this is the only item on this list (other than the next item, of course…) that isn’t 100% cotton, if that matters to you.
♡ there’s nothing wrong with…
wearing company swag, of course. i don’t necessarily endorse wearing corporate clothing as a fashion statement, but if you just need something to keep you warm at home or at the office… well, it’s free, and you really shouldn’t buy anything new if you don’t have to! and maybe it’s cute, in a semi-ironic way?
in a similar vein, thrift stores often have unique sweatshirts and hoodies at a great price. if you don’t see yourself wearing your office hoodie as a fashion statement, thrifting one is both sustainable and cool.
♡ what i’ve been loving
♡ parting words
sorry for the lapse! i’m currently working on a more ~cerebral~ and in-depth edition of dress up focused on shopping and personal style. please, please, please let me know any questions you have and what you would like to hear my thoughts on!
leave a comment with your favourite hoodie <3 and share dress up with a friend!
would love to hear your thoughts on layering existing pieces! how do you avoid looking like an early 2000s disney teen? or can anything be pulled off with a bit of confidence 🤔
